The Old St. Francis Theater in Bend is but one of the McMenamin brothers theater-pubs in Oregon and Washington. The Portland Oregonian said in 2004 that Mike and Brian like to restore old buildings and convert them to brewpubs or theater-pubs. They opened their first location in 1983 and have grown in 2010 to 58 locations, with eight showing films. Their most famous and recognizable venue is the Bagdad Theater in Portland.
As for the Bend location, the Old St. Francis School was built in 1936 as a Catholic school. The Oregonian said the building was purchased for $1.6 million in 2002 and after a $3 million renovation it opened in 2004. In addition to the 150-seat theater the complex includes a brewery, bakery, restaurant, pubs, soaking pools, lodgings, and event space. Their website includes a colorful gallery highlighting the Old St. Francis Schools many amenities.
