The South Drive-In was opened on August 10, 1951 with Larry Parks in “Emergency Wedding” & Cathy O'Donnell in “They Live by Night”. It had a 500 car capacity. It was operated by Alliance Theater Corp. By the mid-1970’s it was operated by Cinecom and the drive-in closed on October 12, 1980 with Robert Hays in “Airplane!” & Steve McQueen in “The Hunter”.
The drive-in site is now occupied by the Blue Grass Farms.

I think the theater was located where WAXT radio station use to reside on 53rd St. The new radio station is located west of the original station.
According to the old topo maps, it appeared that the South Drive-In sat a bit “crooked” for lack of a better word.
Instead of running due north/south, it appears that the drive-in was laid out SW to NE just like Blue Grass Farms is today which sits on the site.
