Mentioned in the book "Stroke of Fortune" by William C. Cline, the Paramount Theatre in Concord, N.C. was the place to see action serials of the day such as, "Dick Tracy vs.Crime Inc"., "Spy Smashers" and "Perils of Nyoka". Tex Ritter the singing cowboy and western star since 1936 would become a regular vistor dropping by to say "howdy" to his Concord friends at the Paramount Theatre anytime he was booked nearby. In the 1940’s, the Paramount Theatre was operated by Paramount Pictures Inc. through their subsidiary H.F. Kincey.
Concord saw a large selection of traveling actors of the 1940’s known has the Kemp Circuit out of Charlotte. They booked these mainly western stars to promote movies playing in smaller towns.
The Paramount Theatre was still operating in 1950.

If this article is correct, the former theatre has been converted to a pub/restaurant called the Speakeasy Alehouse.
Chuck, I am working with several people in Concord on the history of their theaters. So far we have a list of as many as 17 theatres in the downtown. I will summit names and locations when we finish. The Paramount was located at 9 North Union and later was named the Cinema Theater. I was told last week that the restaurant is not located in the old theater building but two doors down. There are some amazing photos that I will share if the owns give me permission.
