The Picture House was opened on 25th March 1915. It was built for the Associated Provincial Picture House(APPH) chain. Taken over by Provincial Cinematograph Theatres(PCT) chain in February 1929, it was closed on 8th January 1938, and was demolished.
A new Gaumont Theatre was built on the site, which opened on 10th October 1938.
