Opened January 31st 1931 the Masterton Regent was designed by Charles Hollinshed in similiar style to The Regent Palmerston North under the Williamsons Theatre Chain. In the early days the Regent was run by a Manager, cashier, door keeper and 7 ushers to fill the 1100 seats. The Theatre suffered badly in the 1980’s before being converted to triplex in the 90’s.
The front of the Regent is celebrated on the Cover of Wayne Brittendens “Celludiod Circus” a history of NZ Picture Theatres: http://www.nzine.co.nz/views/celluloidcircus.html
