Located in the centre of Melbourne, across from Flinders Street Railway Station. The Australian Centre for the Moving Image(ACMI) began in Melbourne in 1946. It is a similar organisation to the National Film Theatre(NFT) in London England, but it incorporates more aspects of cinema, similar to the National Museum of Photography, Film and Television in Bradford, Yorkshire, England, which also deals with technical innovations as well as screening films.
ACMI moved into their new home on Federation Square in 2002. The modern building was designed by architect Peter Davidson and has two auditoriums; Cinema 1 seats 170, and Cinema 2 seats 390.

So exciting to learn that ACMI will be transferring all cinema presentations to the about to re-open Capitol Theatre following a major renovation while the 2 auditoriums at ACMI will undergo a 12 month renovation.
