The Midway Drive-In was located on Highway 441 between Sevierville and Gatlinburg. It was on the right side of the highway as you were driving towards Gatlinburg. I remember it was located behind some other businesses with only the sign located on the highway, leading down narrow lane back to the theater. It was opened around 1952, when it was operated by C.L. Wilson.
I went there several times during the mid-1970’s, and unlike other drive-ins in East Tennessee at the time, it showed only one feature instead of double features. The only other theater in Sevier County at the time was the Gatlinburg Cinema in Gatlinburg. I remember seeing “Day of the Animals” and “Shadow of the Hawk” there. Not sure when it closed, but was probably swallowed up by development in Pigeon Forge by the early-1980’s.

Wow, so “SHADOW OF THE HAWK” played somewhere else besides the IMPERIAL. What a horrible film.

Actually, I liked SHADOW OF THE HAWK a lot, but it does seem to have disappeared. One of the forgotten horror movies in the 70’s. I saw it again once on TV probably in the late 70’s, and have never seen in since. Jan Michael Vincent was actually very good in it, but Chief Dan George was great! It weas influenced by the Carlos Casteneda books that were popular at the time. I would love to see it again.

I remember my mom taking my bro and I to see “Love At First Bite” starring George Hamilton at this drive-in one night back in the late ‘70’s, whilst my late dad (Bob Stewart) was playing a gig at the old Steak Chalet Restaurant & Nightclub that was right across the street from it. The Steak Chalet was owned by Jim Bookstaff whom at the time also owned a second location in Gatlinburg that was across the street from the Mountain Mall. My dad had an apartment suite above it at that location. I used to walk out on the balcony late at night and stare down at the parkway as a kid.
