After a brief closure, this theater has reopened as the UltraStar Anaheim Garden Walk; the new official website is: http://www.ultrastarmovies.com/ For the time being, the IMAX screen is not available nor the former 21+ seating, though the new management hopes to restore both eventually, according to this story: View link

UltraStar is making significant upgrades at this theater. The IMAX screen has been replaced with one of the company’s UltraMax screens, D-Box seats have been installed, and the 21+ seating will be returned. Story here: View link
I’m surprised the theatre lasted as long as it did. Had it been located almost anywhere else, this theatre likely would have been very successful. In many ways, the facility/amenities offered were ahead of their time when it opened and foretold where the industry was heading. However, the upper level, of a poorly placed/thought out shopping complex, basically doomed the venue from the start. Maybe the House of Blues will provide the kind of drawing power this mall is in desperate need of.
Hold on. Not so fast. Rumor has it that the theater may reopen, but on a smaller scale. Demolition has started but apparently they will be keeping auditoriums 9-14 untouched or partially gutted. They will wall off the lobby area for the HOB but the mall wants a small 6 screen theater still. So the theater may not be completely dead yet. The HOB will take over the side of theaters 1-8 including the former IMAX screen.
How far was it from Disneyland, Honda Center, and Angel Stadium?
There is rumor the movie theater portion of this theater, that wasn’t converted to House of Blues may be reopened by AMC when the Downtown Disney AMC multiplex closes. The Downtown Disney multiplex is closing because Disney will be building a hotel on the site.
AMC has opened this theater as a 6 plex next to the HOB this past Friday. It uses the 6 theaters formerly of the Ultraluxe. Official name is AMC Gardenwalk 6.
