Emerson Theatre

The Emerson Theatre was a neighborhood house that opened in 1916 with seating listed at 325. It opened as the Northtown Theatre and later renamed the Emerson Theatre.

The Emerson Theatre went through various operators, Associated Amusements and American Amusements Co.

The theatre closed in 1952 and was later demolished. An Auto body shop is now on the site the theatre once stood.

I remember this theater as the Northtown theater on the North-West corner of 26th Ave & Emerson avenue north. It was next to the Schweigert meat market. When Schweigert expanded, they took the space occupied by the Northtown. The autobody shop was on the south-east corner of the intersection. My dad worked as a butcher at the meat market in the late 1950’s
