Pow Wow Drive-In

The Pow Wow Drive-In was on Highway 97 between Oroville and the Canadian border. It was opened in July 1955. Capacity was about 500 cars.

Approx address for this drive-in was 5 Boundary Point Road. the drive in itself was north of this address on a side street. Some of the ramps, though barely visible, are still there.

I took those pics and the one above in 2010. I hope there are others out there who have pics from earlier years. When it was working, the sign had arrows that would “fly” and point to the drive in. Although it may be considered offensive now, if I had the money I would buy this sign and restore it. In the pic above, some one at some point has done a crappy restoration job on it. There is just no matching the original red and other paints (now illegal due to HUGE lead content). The letters were there still there in 2007, but by 2010 all had been stolen.
