Located on Lake Shore Boulevard West, between Long Branch Avenue and 35th Street. The Royal Theater dates from the 1910’s, when it was listed with 619 seats. It was part of the Allied chain of movie theaters. Others theaters in the chain were the Allenby, Center, Fox and Mt. Pleasant. The Fox Theater and Mt. Pleasant Theater are still operating but are part of another chain. I don’t know what happened to the Allied chain.
The Royal Theater had a small lobby and concession stand. Monday thru Wednesday they played 2 features. Thursday thru Saturday they played 3 features. Adult admission price was 60 cents.
The Royal Theater was closed in June 1960, and later operated as Cheers Bar & Grill. By 2018 it was in use as a live music venue. It had closed by 2023.

That’s interesting. I was always told that the current “Moose Lodge” was the former Royal theatre, which definately looks like a theatre at the side and the back of the building which sits on the corner.
Also, there hasn’t been a Long Branch Ontario since 1967….was merged in to Etobicoke which is now part of Toronto
I think the Allied theatre chain were made up of independent owners that were against bigger guys like Odeon and Famous Players. I don’t know what happen to them either.
The Moose Lodge is at 3751 Lake Shore Boulevard West, just west of the Eastwood Park Hotel. The Royal Theater was at 3595 Lake Shore Boulevard West. The theater was closed for a number of years (five or six I think) and reopened as Anthony’s Dining Hall.
The Royal theatre closed in 1960 and reopened as “the Blockhouse restaurant” then “ Anthony’s Dining Hall”. It is between 35th Street and Long Breanch Ave in the former Long Branch. Those of us who were raised there and went through school in the area still refer to it as Long Branch, New Toronto and Mimico area. Great memories wih Royal. Went when it was $.10 admission fee back in the 50’s
Now some sort of live music venue run by Odeum Entertainment.
