The Skyway Drive-In in was located on the main street leading out of town towards Knoxville, Tennessee. It was owned by Cherokee Amusements back in the 1950’s.
Up until the late-1970’s it was still in operation. I went there one night with my cousin who had to meet a friend there. On the screen was Christopher Lee in "Horror Express".
Never forgot that title.
It parked 297 cars in an odd way, conforming to the ridges and hills in East Tennessee. The screen was actually down in a hole, and the cars were positioned going up the hill almost like seats in a theatre.
The box-office was white with red trim, and the concession-booth were both on one level. The concession was not large. The marquee was of the same color, nice size. I guess the Skyway stayed open until the 1980’s.
In 1956 there was another drive-in in LaFollette called the Starlight Drive-In. It held 300 cars, and Tim Smith was the owner. But I don’t remember anything about this theatre.

Like so many passion pits this location today is home to a large church.
Mike: Too funny! Love your “passion pit” comment! Who would have suspected years ago that this passion pit would become a church?!
But, you know Nick both the Skyview Drive in and Weis Drive in both have churches on them. And that is in Augusta.
I got some info on the Aiken Theatres,Nick from you know who; I am working them up for you now.
Anyone have any info on the Starlight Drive-in located in this city. All I have what is in the above header.
Nick.seems like alot of Drive-ins become church sites or lousy shopping centers that have now fallen on hard times like the old Drive-ins they replaced.
Thanks Nick and Mike.
I drove by this Drive-in Countless times,NEVER thought to take a picture,Tis.
Approx. address for this drive-in was 1906 Jacksboro Pike. Now La Follette Church of God.
