Built on top of the existing HMV DVD & CD store in the southwest London district of Wimbledon. The HMVCurzon Cinema opened on 23rd October 2009 with “The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus”, “The Fantastic Mr. Fox” and “Up” in 3D. The space was formerly a storage area, which had not been used for several years. It is the first of what is hoped to be several such cinemas operated by the Artificial Eye/Curzon group which brings cinema back to the high street in town centres, rather than out of town multiplexes.
The three screens are all digital equipped and are also equipped for 3D. Seating provided in the Red Room for 103, the Blue Room with 91 and the Green Room with 71 seats. As well as screening first run films, it also screens special events via a satellite link. The cinema also boasts a luxurious bar and was accessed through the store during its operating hours, but the store has since closed and access to the cinema is via a separate entrance.
