Regal Cinema Tadcaster

The Regal Cinema opened in 1938. It had a wide, imposing facade. Inside the auditorium on the splay walls were plaster panels of leaping gazelles. There was a free car park for patrons.

During the 1960’s, bingo was introduced on Wednesday and Friday evenings, while films continued on other evenings. The Regal Cinema was closed in 1975 and demolished in the mid-1980’s

The Regal Cinema was demolished in the late 1980s after lying derelict for a number of years.

Isn’t this the Riley Smith Hall, that I’ve actually seen in the flesh, Mr Peo?

The extant Riley Smith Hall is a short distance from the site of the erstwhile Regal Cinema.

Local gossip states that one of the local brewers bought the cinema and had it demolished, because it was derelict. The site is now just and area of grass.
