I remember going to that theater in the summer of 1978 in my 1968 Delta 88. We could comfortablecomfortably ople and for prom one year it was that beautiful car that was that carried three couples. By 1978 the theater was starting to show it’s age and location. I don’t remember the movie, probably a Bruce Lee flick, but we just went there to hang out because the internet would be over a decade coming….

Charles, wasn’t it fun to walk those parking lots and check and repair the speakers. I’m sure my Dad would have remembered your Dad as he worked at Skyview when I was born. Which was 1951. Oops, I’m telling my age! lol…. They use to put me in a basket in the back seat of the car when I was a baby.
Newbie to this group. My Dad was Mgr. there in early to mid 1950’s.(Frank Andrews) I was 10-14 years old and my older brother once worked in the concession stand. Tina, I knew your Dad, Wave Ballad, Sam Dent and other projectionist. In my mid teens, I checked and repaired speakers for the Skyview, Forest Hills and Hilltop. I was later in radio and recorded the pre-show music audio tapes for a couple of years. And yes, I had a Golden Pass when I started to drive.
I have one of the Marquee not long before it closed,have to dig it up.
I wish I had gone back over and taken more pictures before they tore it all down, but Daddy wouldn’t let us. He was afraid we would get hurt because of all the people that had broken into everything. How about posting that picture, Mike.

I just posted two photos of my Dad painting the screen of the Skyview in 1967. This is also the way he use to put up the billboard posters for movies that played there. I use to help him do that. I’ll never forget the white glue that you had to put on the huge sheets. It was so messy. Those were the best years of my childhood and teen years. Tina Griffin

I remember one night at the Skyview when one projector failed and they had to show the film one reel at a time(about ten minutes each) on the single projector with about a five minute changeover time between reels. It took forever to see both features and most people left except us teenagers who were not watching the movie anyway.
“PART 2 WALKING TALL” opens at the SKYVIEW along with “Willard” another strange double feature. “PART 2 WALKING TALL” is playing Day and Date with the Miller Theatre.
Tina I knew your dad along with most of the Projectionists in Augusta having worked National Hills,Columbia 1 and 2 and the Imperial,later at Regency Mall.Any stories you can share would be great and pictures.All of Augusta’s theatres from the Silent movie days to now are on CT. I grew up at the Skyview..My Dad was the projectionist/Manager there for many years. His name was “Griff”. He was there in the 50’s until some time in the 70’s when he went to the Southgate Theatre and then on to the Master’s which he retired from at age 72. I spent many hours at the theatre. On Saturdays we would go up and walk the lot checking all the speakers. My sister and I would check for sound and if they didn’t work we would lay them on the ground and Daddy would come behind up and fix them or replace them. My Daddy would go up on a scaffle and paint the screen. I have a picture of him doing that. It was awesome! Tina Griffin

“HOUSEBOAT” plays here on Friday with a big Half hour of cartoons for the kids. Sept. 1960.
These movies Played the SKYVIEW DRIVE-IN. “THE APARTMENT” “PARIS HOLIDAY” “THE GIRL IN THE BIKINI” and “HEAD OF A TYRANT” something called Popcorn Playhouse was on Friday,must be for the kids.
Sept 1960 sees the THREE STOOGES in “STOP,LOOK.LISTEN” and “CHANCE MEETING”
Another great Drive-in movie plays the SKYVIEW. “MONIQUE” and “HOT PANTS HOLIDAY” for Dec 17 1974.
The picture was shot for a newspaper column i wrote above on this site, I guess i could have the whole story with picture on if i can get Nick or Robin to do it. I do have a shot of the screen long after it closed.{color}
