Twin Pines Drive-In

The Twin Pines Drive-In opened March 23, 1956. It was designed and built by the 23 years old owner Jimmy L. Wyche. There were 350-seats on the patio in front of the concession/projection building for walk-ins and others to use. It was still open in 1970.

The concession stand/projector room for the Twin Pines was the site of a gay/lesbian club called The Rainbow Club in the mid/late 80’s. It was burned by an arsonist sometime in the late 80’s.

“The Twin Pines Drive-In, Longview, has opened its new patio dining area which has a Hawaiian motif. Bamboo and palm trees help create the atmosphere and the menu is built around Hawaiian favorite foods. The patio, from which the picture can be seen and heard, may be reserved by party groups.” — Boxoffice, July 4, 1960

The drive-in was still intact and appears operational in a 1975 aerial. By 1985, it had been demolished.

Opened with Gregory Peck in “The Yearling” and Walt Disney’s “Stormy” along with an unnamed Tom And Jerry cartoon and an unnamed Bugs Bunny Looney Tune.

The Twin Pines Drive-In closed on February 7, 1982 with Marie Osmond in “Going Coconuts” and “Richard Pryor In Concert”. Half of the theater (alongside its location of the screen) was demolished to make way for an office/warehouse complex (now occupied by PeopleReady) that was announced three months after the theater closed. The rest of the traces were left attached for decades. That part was demolished and ABC Auto Parts is on that side of the former drive-in’s property.
