Arlyne Theater ... Longview Texas

The Arlyne Theater was opened May 24, 1939 with Alice Faye in “Rose of Washington Square”. It had a unique architectural feature, that being a decorative 2/3 circular type design on the entire front of the building. There was a marquee at the bottom of this that sheltered the entrance and ticket booth. Attached front and center over the marquee was a tall vertical sign with block lettering spelling out “Arlyne”. It was closed January 5, 1975. It was demolished in 1976.

The Arlyne Theater site was located across Methvin street from what is now Heritage Plaza. It has been demolished and is now a parking lot.

The ownership of the Arlyne brought in interesting films in the late 60s, such as Blowup, The Graduate, A Man for All Seasons, Bonnie and Clyde and In the Heat of the Night. All strong stuff for East Texas.
