The Skyway Drive-In opened late in 1950. It reopened for the 1952 season as the Highway 13 Drive-In Theatre with “Dakota Lil” and “Ghost Chasers.” It was renamed as the Hi-Way 13 Drive-In during its next season.

There’s a nice 1981 plane’s-eye view of the Hi Way 13 Drive-In at Vintage Aerial.

A more accurate address for this theater is 7633 Lexington Rd, Henrietta, MO 64036. This points directly to the drive in itself. There is no trace except the outline.

Please update.

Sorry to be so long in getting back to you but I finally made contact with my friend who used to work at the drive-in and he said all land that the drive-in and bowling building had been turned back to farming land as it was before the drive-in was built.

Are the very faint ramps gone too?

I don’t know for sure. I haven’t been back there since the early 80’s. I now live in Hollywood Ca but keep in touch with a friend who now lives in Kansas City Mo. He worked in the concession stand at the theater. Will touch base with you after I talk to him. I heard that that the drive-in property had been turned back into farming land as it was when the theater was built.

Is the bowling alley still there?

I think what we have is a failure to communicate. There are 2 sites listed for the drive-in with BOWL in the one I am now which evidently contains information only to the BOWLING building. But it sort of appears like it is for drive-in theater information. It is confusing to me how it is set up.

Because the bowling alley building was on the same property as as the drive-in. As you turned off from the hi-way onto the drive-in theater property the bowling alley was on the right hand side across from the boxoffice.

Oh i see!! Why the word bowl in the name then?

I can only assume it was called 13 Bowl because it was next to Hi Way 13 highway and Hi Way 13 Drive In Theater.

I was the projectionist at the Hi Way 13 Drive In theater when it opened in 1950. I started running projectors at the Farris Theater in Richmond Mo in 1942. Any questions feel free to ask.

A closer address (at least for Google) is 42998 E 76th St, Henrietta, MO. Today, it is private property with no trace of the drive-in remaining. http://tinyurl.com/j4rkn5h

Hi There – Very interested in the beginnings of this drive-in. Found some movie reel cans with the name of “Forrest Armour” on them. Did he work there or was he connected to the theater? Thank you!

That’s it, Sam. It was located at the intersection of East 76th Street and West 88th Street.

Not apparent at all in this shot HERE but a 1996 shows the faint, faint outline of the rows, and likely a booth right in the center of the field HERE
