The Capitol 4 was constructed in 1983, and for the longest time, served as one of Saskatoon’s most prominent first-run theatres after its opening in 1984.

Following the Galaxy/Famous Players merger, Empire took over operations, September of 2005.

Almost a year later, the new 12-screen Galaxy megaplex had opened nearby, prompting the Empire’s closure in 2008.

The building has since been transformed into office space, under the new name "Capitol Centre".

It should be noted that the theater’s original name, Capitol 4, was taken from the original Capitol Theatre which operated one block to the north until it was demolished in the early 1980s for an office tower.
