Slim Starling opened the Atomic Drive-In on February 18, 1952 with Eddie Cantor in “Show Business”. It took its unique name from an era in the 1950’s remembered as the "atomic age" when there was an optimistic feeling that all power in the future would be atomic, including atomic powered cars.
The theatre was designed to accommodate movie fans from their cars, comfortable outdoor seating or an indoor seating area for up to 280 people who could enjoy a movie through a 130 foot plate glass viewing area.
By 1955, it was operated by Rowley United Theatres.
