Hart Theatre

The Hart, Pentwater, and Shelby Theaters were owned by the same man, Emmett Roche. The Shelby Theater was the first to close, the Hart second, and Pentwater the last.

I was born in Hart, attended both the Hart and Pentwater Theaters as a youth and adult. A Vintage Hart paper dated July 1, 1976, lists an ad for the Hart Theater stating that 3 Days of the Condor was to be shown during that time. The same paper also showed an ad for the Pentwater Theater. I also have a vintage Hart paper dated July 25, 1985 still showing an ad for the Pentwater Theater. I am not sure what year, but sometime between 1976 and 1985 the Hart Theater closed its doors. Seating capacity for the Hart Theater was around 250 seats with a center isle and I believe 5 seats on one side and 7 on the other. The Hart Theater also had a cry room and the bathrooms were in the basement.

Silent films are shown here occasionally with live organ accompaniment. Function should include films and film festivals.

Currently has operated as Dale and Gail’s Music and Art Gallery for the past 7 years. Link below indicates it opened in 1927, but that may have been the name change from Amuse Theatre.
