The West-Vue Drive-In was a single-screen outdoor theatre that stood at the northwest corner of 86th Street and Hickman Road in the Des Moines suburb of Urbandale, Iowa. It opened June 1, 1951 with Gene Kelly in “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” & Bowery Boys in “Lucky Losers.
The theatre was closed on September 20, 1977 with Glenda Jackson in “Nasty Habits” & Graham Chapman in “Monty Python and the Holy Grail”. It was demolished shortly thereafter.
A Perkins Restaurant and Bakery now stands approximately where the Northwest-facing screen once was.

June 1st, 1951 grand opening ad in photo section.
Opened on June 1, 1951 with Gene Kelly in “Take Me Out To The Ballgame” and the Bowery Boys in “Lucky Losers” along with an unnamed cartoon.
The West-Vue’s last day of operation was September 20, 1977 with “Nasty Habits” and “Monty Python and the Holy Grail” along with two cartoons.
Interesting that the buildings currently occupying the area were the ramps were located are aligned to face where the screen was located. Making the entire layout mimic that of the drive-in which was replaced.
