The Corso Theater was opened on 18th April 1900 as a Variete Theatre and screened its first films on the American Bioscoop as part of the opening programme. It had a beautiful Art Nouveau style exterior and interior, designed by architect H. Stadler & E. Usteri. The Kino Corso opened on 1st August 1934 with 1,300 seats in a modern re-modeling of the historic Corso Theater to the plans or architects Ernst F. Burkhardt & Karl Knell.
Probably Zurich’s top first run venue…In my time - the early-1980’s - a good triplex with a sizeable main screen with decent raked seating, a stadium styled smaller second screen and a 100-120 seat third screen…I saw “Excalibur”, “Private Benjamin”, “This is Elvis”, “The Beast”, “For Your Eyes Only” and “The Stuntman” here.
By 2009, there are now four screens operating. The seating capacities are for 750, 300, 120 and 198. The building also contains a nightclub.
