C.N. Jenkins opened the Lamar Theater on December 24th, 1926 and at the time it was un-named. A big "name the theater" contest won Paul Howell of Caddo Oklahoma $50.00 in January 1927. (Since the theater was located on Lamar Street one can only wonder what the loosing names were.)

T.F. McConnell purchased the popular theater that same year. The Lamar’s good fortune changed September 1928 with a tragic fire that injured many in the audience, destroyed the building and claimed one life.
