Lincoln Theatre

The Lincoln Theatre opened in February of 1920. The theatre was built to cater to an African-American audience. It featured live shows and movies. The theatre was owned by the Bijou Amusement Co. of Nashville, TN.

The theatre closed in the early-1970’s and was demolished on November 9, 1989. It was demolished following heavy damage from Hurricane Hugo. The site is now occupied by a U-Haul Rental Service.

The Lincoln Theatre during the height of the civil rights movement was the ONLY theatre in Charleston that catered to the African-American community,at the time of segregation.
