The Cactus Drive-In, Odessa’s first drive-in theatre, was opened in May 18, 1947 by Millard Jones. The opening was shortly after World War II ended, and was met with great success by the city and found its 500 parking spaces packed by enthusiastic crowds week in and out. The theatre was known for bringing back the biggest box office hits of the period. It was twinned in late-1952 and the car capacity increased to 550.
It was closed in the 1980’s and nothing remains except memories.
