The Odessa Theater was the first movie theater for the city of Odessa and was opened by Mr. & Mrs. Joe Rice in 1927 in the Grant Hotel Building. H.T. Hodge, founder of H & H Theaters of Abilene along with his son made a deal and bought Joe Rice out in 1927.
They closed the Odessa Theater in late-1928 and moved all the equipment to a new location at 3rd and Grant Avenue in order to open the Lyric Theater, which has its own historic contribution to the city of Odessa.
