The 10-screen Blue Ridge Cinemas opened as Raleigh’s first multiplex discount theatre under Carmike Cinemas on December 10, 1993. Its two largest auditoriums were fully equipped with the latest THX-Dolby sound system. The Blue Ridge Cinemas replaced the other discount theatres operating in the Greater Raleigh area (the Falls Twin, the South Hills Twin and the Terrace Twin) which the former two discount Carmike chains reopened later under new management as the Colony 1 & 2 and the Raleighwood Cinema Grill (the former Falls Twin Theatres).
On April 25, 1997, the Blue Ridge Cinemas was expanded to 14-screens, and the theatre was still a discount theatre. It is the only discount theatre under Carmike Cinemas that caters the Greater Raleigh area and parts of eastern North Carolina. It was taken over by AMC and from April 1, 2019 screens first-run movies. It was closed on March 17, 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. It reopened in summer of 2020, but was closed permanently in December 2020. It was demolished to build an apartment block.

Piecesoftheater is right; Blue Ridge Cinemas was second-run from day one. It replaced the old Terrace Twin, Falls Twin and South Hills Twin 99-cent theaters (the former two reopened under different owners as the Colony Twin and Raleighwood Cinema Grill, respectively). Carmike never charged first-run prices at the Blue Ridge Cinemas.
BLUE RIDGE CINEMAS opened as Raleigh’s first multiplex discount theatre under Carmike Cinemas on December 10,1993 as a 10-screener with its largest auditorium having full THX-Dobly sound.
It replaced from day one the 99-cent discount theaters in the greater Raleigh area (The Terrace Twin, The South Hills Twin, and the Falls Twin)…which the former two discount Carmike chains reopened under new management and ownership as the Colony Theatres 1 & 2(the former Terrace Twin),and the Raleighwood Cinema Grill at Falls Village(the former Falls Twin).
Opened as a 10 screener in 1993 and by mid-1996 added on four more screens where the admission went from 99 cents to $1.50.
BLUE RIDGE CINEMAS is the only Carmike discount house in operation that is East of Raleigh. There are NO discount houses in other parts of Eastern North Carolina that are under Carmike Cinemas.
Now AMC Classic Blueridge 14 (Blueridge is now spelled as one word).
AMC is now operating this as a first-run multiplex.

The AMC Classic Blueridge 14 closed with the rest of the AMC Circuit during the COVID-19 pandemic on March 17, 2020. In a second wave of announcements by AMC, the Blueridge 14 was closed permanently.
2022 Update: I went back to the site recently. It was torn down for an apartment complex.
