Located in the Oak Shopping Centre. The 6-screen Global Cinema opened in June 2000. It was equipped with seats with special headrests and the latest digital technology. Seating capacities ranged from 255 down to 91, giving 839 seats in total. Global Cinemas went into receivership in November 2014 and the Global Cinema was closed.
In 2015 it was acquired by the Omniplex Cinema Group. Following a comprehensive £3m refurbishment, including the installation of the Group’s own-brand rocker seats, the cinema re-opened as the Omniplex on 17th March 2016.
With the new seats being a little larger, there are now just under 800 in total. The largest auditorium seats 237, whilst the smallest seats 83.
