Opened in December 1908, the Taylor Opera House, built for Joseph Taylor, a well-to-do O'Fallon merchant, could originally seat 900 and featured live theater and vaudeville acts. In 1930, movies began being shown at the Opera House.
The theater was remodeled in 1937 and renamed the O'Fallon Theatre, with its seating capacity greatly reduced. The theater closed in 1940. Between 1945 and 1982, the former opera house/movie theater served as a meat locker.
The building was remodeled in 1985 as the Opera House Mall. Today the building houses mixed retail use.
