The Ritz Theatre was a small neighborhood theatre built in the 1940’s near the corner of 20th Street and 31st Avenue. It was an African-American theatre which opened on June 21, 1940. It had an all African-American staff & management, and Caucasian patrons were also admitted.
It was reopened for a short time in the early-1960’s as the Regal Theatre. It closed again within a year. It was heavily damaged by Hurricane Camille in 1969 and later demolished.

The Ritz Theatre was opened on June 21, 1940 in a west Gulfport residential area by the owners of the Royal Theatre in downtown Gulfport and seated 300. Its name was changed sometime in the early 1950’s to the Regal Theatre.
Boxoffice, May 30, 1960: “Lewis Gates reopened the Regal at Gulfport, which he acquired from Dr. J. O. Tate”
