The Melodian Theatre was opened in 1930 with 475 seats. It was designed by Spokane based architect Charles Wood in a Spanish style. It was renamed Pix Theatre in around 1942 and was still open in 1954. it was demolished in the early-1970’s.

The Pix Theater at 419 1st Street was demolished in the early 1970s. The Theater appeared in the 1954 Telephone Directory for Cheney, Washington, but not in any of the subsequent Directories. The edge of the building that can be seen at the far right in the c. 1940 photograph (“Pomeroy Block”) is still standing and can be seen at the far right of the 2011 photograph. Dr. Charles V. Mutschler, University Archivist of Eastern Washington University in Cheney was of great assistance in obtaining the information above.
Motion Picture Herald, March 8, 1952: “Ernest Landry sold the Pix theatre in Cheney, Wash., to C. L. Shaw.”
