Metropol Biogfraf in September 2008

Located in the centre of Copenhagen, the 3-screen Palladium Biograf was a replacement to the splendid 1938 built Palladium Biograf, that was demolished in 1977.

The Palladium Biograf opened in 1979, the cinema being located in the basement of a new shopping centre and office block, adjacent to the main entrance of the world famous Tivoli Gardens. Seating capacities in the screens were for 398, 197 and 97, a total of 692.

Re-named Metropol Biograf in 2005 after a refurbishment, the cinema is operated by Nordisk Film chain and tends to play better class and art house films. The seating capacities have been slightly reduced to 378, 180 and 87 and there are double ‘love-seats’ on the back row of the auditoriums.

The Metropol Biograf was closed in 2010.

In May 1991, I enjoyed “The Russia House” in the largest auditorium, which I noted had about 450 seats. It was a neat, very large, wide screen presenation. And, I saw “Sleeping with the Enemy” in the 200 seat auditorium, where the screen was medium sized.
