The actual opening date is November 24, 1964, and the Marumsco was nicknamed “The Golden Theatre” according to the November 30, 1964 edition of Box Office. This was also opened by Neighborhood Theatres and housed a total capacity of 754 seats.

Did briefly reopen shortly after the September 1987 roof collapse but closed two months later.

Became a Cineplex Odeon location when they acquired Neighborhood Theatres in late 1986. At some point in 1987 a roof leak caused a ceiling tile to fall n the seats. We closed the theatre the next day.

Washington Post of Sunday November 15, 1964 (page G-3) lists Marumsco Theatre.. Wed – Sat “World of Henry Orient”

Run by Neighborhood Theatres of Virginia.

Was only in the Marumsco once.. as I remember.. Booth had Simplex XLs (with drive-in mod, picture was projected up to the screen (like a drive-in) not down) with Peerless MagnArc lamps.. huge screen that was slightly higher then the booth, and much higher than the audience.
