Star Cinema

Opened in 1909 as the Theatre Cinematographique. It was re-named Annessens Palace in 1920, and for financial reasons it was still a ‘silent’ cinema until 1932, being the last cinema in Brussels to convert to ‘talkies’. From 1934 it was re-named Phenix Cinema, and in 1936 it was re-named Star Cinema

In 1967 it was taken over by Spanish immigrants. While playing “The Green Berets” the cinema was damaged by anti-Americans in the audience. It was renovated in 1969, reopening with double bill programmes at cheap prices. This proved to not be a success and it closed with a few months. It was demolished in the early-1970’s and housing was built on the site.
