Vue have also now updated their seat counts, which are down substantially due to the bigger, wider luxury seats: Screen 1: (IMAX) 76 Lux Seats + 22 Ultra Lux + 2 Wheelchair Spaces Screen 2: 88 Lux Seats + 18 Ultra Lux + 2 Wheelchair Spaces Screen 3: 42 Lux Seats + 8 Ultra Lux + 1 Wheelchair Space Screen 4: 42 Lux Seats + 8 Ultra Lux + 1 Wheelchair Space Screen 5: 24 Lux Seats + 6 Ultra Lux + 1 Wheelchair Space Screen 6:25 Lux Seats + 6 Ultra Lux + 1 Wheelchair Space Screen 7: 35 Lux Seats + 8 Ultra Lux + 1 Wheelchair Space Screen 8: 28 Lux Seats + 7 Ultra Lux + 1 Wheelchair Space Screen 9: 38 Lux Seats + 8 Ultra Lux + 1 Wheelchair Space Screen 10: 33 Lux Seats + 8 Ultra Lux + 1 Wheelchair Space Screen 11: 42 Lux Seats + 8 Ultra Lux + 1 Wheelchair Space Screen 12: 75 Lux Seats + 26 Ultra Lux + 1 Wheelchair Space
Got back yesterday from the soft launch of the newly revamped cinema (it closed for a few days to finish redecorating). The revamp is very extensive, including a self-service foyer that they call “Vue Your Way” (I’m not hugely into the concept). All the screens have been fitted with new seating and laser projection. Vue CEO Tim Richards also appeared to give a speech before the film, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy.
Seat capacities prior to the refit in December 2024, from Vue’s website and saved for posterity. Screen 1: (IMAX) 2 Wheelchair Spaces Screen 2: 277 Seats + 2 Wheelchair Spaces Screen 3: 156 Seats + 1 Wheelchair Space Screen 4: 137 Seats + 1 Wheelchair Space Screen 5: 95 Seats + 1 Wheelchair Space Screen 6: 95 Seats + 1 Wheelchair Space Screen 7: 120 Seats + 1 Wheelchair Space Screen 8: 106 Seats + 1 Wheelchair Space Screen 9: 136 Seats + 1 Wheelchair Space Screen 10: 127 Seats + 1 Wheelchair Space Screen 11: 123 Seats + 1 Wheelchair Space Screen 12: 258 Seats + 2 Wheelchair Spaces
The capacities are much lower in the refitted screens, but Vue has not updated just yet. Screen 4 now seats 51, Screen 5 now seats 30.
As of next Monday (December 9th), the first upgraded screens will re-open. These will include new Ultra Lux seats, the first Vue to have them in the country, as well as the first to have a self-serve retail area (I’m less enamoured by). Projection and sound are also being upgraded. https://theswindonian.co.uk/news/vue-swindon-undergoes-exciting-transformation/
Currently still open while it has having a massive refit to upgrade to Vue’s trademark reclining seats at last. (Which I would have thought they’d do before it opened, but oh well.)
Will officially re-open as a Vue cinema on December 8th, timed for the UK release of Wonka: https://www.myvue.com/cinema/swindon
A premises notice suggests that Vue is planning to take over this site soon (opening date unconfirmed). https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-wiltshire-67073326
Now closed due to Empire entering administration as of yesterday.
The former Screen 1 has been converted into an IMAX screen.
