The Harlem Theater opened in October of 1935. It was owned by an African American named George F. Jones and was patronized by African Americans. It was later taken over by the Luccahese family, still catering for African American patrons. The Harlem Theater operated for almost forty years. The theater burned down in December 1973.

Willie Winn and Dennis D. Baum, who bought and reopened the Harlem Theater in July 1973. Sadly the theater burned down in December of 1973.
My sister’s and brother’s use to go here every Saturday, When I left for the summer to live with my grandmother it was burned down we all were sad in east Austin that’s where we all went on the weekend’s.
