Opened on May 25, 1946 as the Homewood Theatre with seating for 700, all on a single level. It was remodeled in 1951, with the rear few rows of seating removed and the space converted into a larger lobby. It reopened November 8, 1951 with 400 seats as an ‘art house’ movie theatre renamed the Playhouse Theatre. This closed in May 1985 and it remained closed until 1989 when it was used as a church.
The church moved out in 1994 and on January 31, 1997 it reopened as the Heritage Playhouse Theatre, showcasing African-American films. This venture closed in December 1997. In 1999 it reopened as the Kobko Theatre screening Korean movies. From February 2002 it became a live theatre known as the Paragon Theater which closed in 2004. It then became the Showtime Theatre which was still open in August 2011.

The art house was taken over by local businessman Bob Weinholt in spring 1984; but it didn’t catch on. Wienholt closed the Playhouse in February 1985. The theatre reopened very briefly in spring 1985 to show the indie film “Two for the Money.”
On the map view it looks like this was the Showtime Theater before it closed. There is a for sale sign on the door. This would have been around 2007 or so.
Here is a view, circa 1960s:
