The White Cliffs Experience was opened in 1989. A new hall was built adjacent to it and opened as the 110-seat Silver Screen Cinema on 30th March 1991.
In 2013, the auditorium was partially renovated, with 70 new seats, new flooring, a slightly larger screen and the installation of digital projection. On December 16, 2022 it was announced that the Silver Screen Cinema would be closing for three months, until the Dover Film Festival in March 2023. This was blamed on the decline in audience numbers, lack of films, the energy crisis and projector costs - although the opening of the 6-screen Cineworld in March 2018 hasn’t exactly helped.
The Silver Screen Cinema was closed on December 8, 2022 following a screening of the children’s favourite “Matilda:The Musical”. It has reopened as a community centre and screens occasional movies. It is located adjacent to the Dover Museum and Bronze Age Boat Gallery.

The same people operated the Silver Screen Cinema in Folkestone, Kent. After closure, the cinema space has been used as a community space, including private cinema hire. A shared exit with the museum meant that it was difficult to operate, as the museum had to remain open late, or the community space had to close early… councillors approved plans for a new, seperate, fire exit to be provided, along with roof repairs to the building in September 2024. In addition, a new ceiling mounted projection system and new speakers will be installed. Now considered a community space rather than a commercial cinema, the changes have proved popular with the local community.
