Apparently opened in the 1920’s. The Federal Theatre was remodeled in 1948 to the plans of architect Charles D. Strong. It was closed as a movie theatre in the 1970’s. It has been used since its closing as a music venue and for storage. In 2009, it was being used as a church.

I used to go to the Federal Theater in the 80s. It had reopened as a second run theater to try to compete with the newly opening discount theaters in the Denver area.
The first movie I remember seeing there was Tron toward the end of summer in 1982. The last movie I remember seeing there was Pretty in Pink in the spring of 1986.
In contrast to the article at Westword linked earlier, I have no recollection of the Federal showing porn. The neighborhood seems like it would have been unsuited to such a theater.
I saw The Thing with Kurt Russell here in 1982 – by then, the Federal was a dark, dank dollar-house venue.
