Its opening attraction and extras remains unidentified at this time, but I can confirm that it also opened with a “Major Studio Prevue”.

A closer address is 5039 Firestone Pl, South Gate, CA.

The drive-in was never connected to Firestone Blvd, but rather Firestone Place which ran just north of the boulevard.

The drive-in remained intact through 1993, but was completely demolished and replaced by MAERSK SK trucking company which currently sits on the property along with a large parking lot and other businesses. There is no trace of the drive-in remaining.

I graduated from South Gate High in 1954. I took my girlfriend to the drive in in 1952, in my 1938 Chey coupe. I only went there a few times because she became an usher at the Vogue, and I was always let in for free when she was working. Fond memories of South Gate. I new was torn down in the 80’s, but I don’t remember what year.

It was a rather large Drive-in parking 850 cars and the SOUTH GATE DRIVE-In was owned by ALADDIN DRIVE-IN THEATRE INC. All this in 1956.

If you enter the address on this site, you can see the drive-in back in 1972 and the 1950s. It was set back from Firestone Boulevard, as I suspected.

I drove by this location today. It’s heavy industrial, and looks like it has been for some time. I’m not sure where the drive-in would have been, unless it was off to the back somewhere.
