The AMC Como 8 was located in the southern end of the Como Mall at Union and Bennett Rds.
Originally a General Cinemas theater. First saw a movie here in the early 1980’s, when the the mall was a mall.
Now that I think about it, AMC did through the ‘80’s and early 90’s have multiple cineplexes in the Buffalo area. This might have been the other one. I hate fading memory.
I remember this cinema mostly from the late 1990’s when it was run by AMC as a $2 theater. The original six theaters are now Empire State College while the 7 & 8 were located across the mall. While it was a standard 1970’s shoebox type movie house, an enthusiastic staff gave the place its character. Too bad its no longer open. Going to the Appletree Business Park these days, its hard to believe that space fit six theaters.
Loved this theater, loved this mall. They had fantastic midnight cult movies on Friday and Saturday nights in the early 80s and not just on one screen but a variety of cult favorites on several screens. First time I saw Dawn of the Dead was here and I was blown away. Loved the unique layout, popcorn was delicious and the films booked were always intriguing. This is one I sorely miss.
And yes, this was always AMC.
