Regal Walden Galleria Stadium 16 & RPX

Walden Galleria ushered in a new era of moviegoing to their shopping center when Regal Cinemas opened the Walden Galleria Stadium 16 on May 22, 2008 with a total of 3,054 seats.

This theatre replaces the mall’s original twelve screen complex, which was demolished in late-2006 to make way for a Barnes and Noble bookstore and the new wing of the mall that this complex sits on top of.

The theatre can be accessed through what was the second floor entrance to the Bon Ton, as well as by the entrance adjacent to the new parking ramp. New seats installed in 2016 has reduced the seating capacity.

all these holiday shootings and fights near theaters scare me.

The entire complex was converted to digital the week prior to the opening of Iron Man 2, including a 3rd Real-D equipped screen.

There is a slide show with three photos on the web site of the theater’s architects, RLS Design Group. The seating capacity of the Regal Walden Galleria Stadium 16 is 3,054.

Walden Galleria’s Facebook page indicated that Regal is in the progress of converting the largest auditorium (Aud. 4) to an RPX auditorium with an expected completion date of sometime in June. This is the first RPX auditorium in Buffalo and the third in Upstate New York (Syracuse and Clifton Park).

The RPX auditorium is now open (playing “Edge of Tomorrow”). As such, the name of this theatre is now Walden Galleria Stadium 16 & RPX.

Regal’s website is indicating that are planning to install recliners in (presumably) the 15 non RPX auditoriums which will significantly reduce the theatre’s seating capacity (as I believe the largest non-RPX auditorium currently tops out at 175).

Typically recliner seating cuts capacity by ½ to 1/3rd. AMC has a “new generation” of recliner that I’ve sat in, quite comfortable – that doesn’t recline as much that gets them down to about half capacity over regular seating. I’m a little surprised Regal is converting Galleria which I would assume is one of their top performers in WNY (if anything I thought the theaters were too small to begin with) given its location and age (it’s the newest build in the area). I guess they need to compete with AMC and Dipson.

Regal has completed the retrofit of this theatre with recliners.New seating capacity of this theatre is 1,385 broken down as follows:1-57,2-81,3-64,4(RPX)-220,5-108,6-89,7-83,8-61,9-70,10-100,11-97,12-54,13-53,14-70,15-81,16-97. Note that some auditoriums that were similar size pre-remodel are no longer because some auditoriums were re-seated with only 4 seats in the rear row (despite the appearance the space would fit a full row). In addition, all wall covering was replaced and is now the deep blue color (similar to the Regal logo) rather than the original Regal logo maroon color.

This is the last major cinema to be built in the bi-national area of Buffalo-Niagara Falls, 14 years ago as of the posting.
