I went to see “Raiders of the Lost Ark” at this theater in the early 1980s with my mother, her friend and her children. For the lonest time I could not remember what theater it had been and I could not find it since it had been demolished. Now I now it had been here.
The Valley Circle Twin Theatre was located at 23305 Mulholland Drive.
I remember this theaters demise. This was the theater where I saw YOUNG FRANKENSTIEN and it was always dear to me. It was purchased by the company that at the time ran CHUCKY CHEESE. It was in the process of becoming a Chucky cheese when the company fell ojn hard times. The conversion was never completed and the theater sat for quite some time as a freakish abandoned theater with odd chucky cheese gear half installed. It was a sad way to see a theater die.
I do recall it had live performances while it still showed films. In fact I remember on one occasion that the marquee read “TONIGHT STEPPINWOLF 8:30pm” I thought it was for a movie about the band…
I was wrong. It WAS the band.
