This is the venue that introduced the on-coming megaplex building boom of the late-1990’s to the San Fernando Valley. Opened on March 29, 1996, this newly-erected edifice within the Woodland Hills Promenade of Warner Center brought in droves of patrons ranging from upper class to common folk to a mall which had, up to that point, been largely dismissed as “elitist”.
Along with recently added stores that appealed to a wider range of shopper, this two-story megaplex was a cornerstone of the Westfield Corporation’s expansion and reimaging of The Promenade throughout the 1990’s. Upon first stepping inside the AMC 16, you immediately knew this would be something different. Equipped with stadium-style seating, huge screens and super sound systems, the experience of seeing films like “Twister” upon its initial release blew you away!
This is also the venue that screened an early preview of director George Lucas' re-edited release of “Star Wars” in 1997. Truly a great structure providing enough amenities to help it keep pace in the movie-going industry for years to come.
It was closed on June 1, 2022. It was replaced by the AMC Dine-In Topanga 12 in Canoga Park, which opened on June 2, 2022 (it has its own page on Cinema Treasures).

This theatre is located in the shell of a former retail department store; as a result, the venue is divided up on different floor levels (1-6 and 7-16), accessed via escalators, with seperate concession stands for each level. A basement level exists under the complex, but the huge space was left unfinished (ceilings too low for auditorium use, theatre exclusive access limitting any other use); a caged off theatre storage area stands as the floor’s sole occupant.

With the building of the Westfield Village between the Promenade and Westfield Topanga malls in 2015, the Promenade mall has fallen into disrepair. Most spaces in the mall are now vacant, with the exception of the movie theater and a few restaurants. As of this writing Westfield is planning to demolish the Promenade and relocate the theater to a former Sears space in the Topanga mall.
Well folks it looks like this is end of the road for this one! It was a great quarter of a century but all good things must come to an end! Hint: The Villages are closer to Topanga.

The AMC Topanga 12 w/IMAX will open before Labor Day at the old Sears Topanga and this will close for redevelopement…As for Northridge STAY TUNED!

Attention! Per Los Angeles Times, AMC Topanga 12 will open this Thursday 6/2/22. As for THIS location, the permanent closure is near…Thanks for the memories Warner Center (UA and AMC). 🥺🥺😔

The mall property was purchased for $150 million, in the spring of 2022, by billionaire real estate developer/sports mogul Stan Kroenke. Reports suggest the site, along with neighboring parcels owned by Kroenke, will be redeveloped into a mixed use property which will include the training facility and administrative offices for the Los Angeles Rams.
