Walked by the theatre today and ALOT of work is going on. The front was open, lobby area stripped down to the studs. Lumber and other building materials going in.

Something new is developing at the theatre. The box office has been fully restored (had been walled over during the Hologram and lounge years) and there appears to have been some considerable work done inside. A public hearing notice about the building’s future use is posted on the front doors, but it is too far behind the security gate to read.
The legendary 70’s punk rock venue, The Masque, was located underneath this theater.
I saw the James Bond movie, License to Kill, there shortly after it became the Ritz.
The marijuana lounge closed sometime before the 2020 pandemic. After sitting vacant for a year or so, there has recently (10/21) been some remodel activity at the theatre. The facade has been resurfaced and looks to be awaiting new paint. While the digital marquee continues to advertise local businesses, the windows are papered over and all of the branding has been removed (including the large Hologram USA sign).
Reopened as an adult cinema on November 13th, 1974
Held a reopening on December 16th, 1969. Another ad posted.

It looks like the Hologram USA operation may have closed. While there is still Hologram USA signage above the marquee, the theatre’s windows and marquee are advertising a recreational marijuana lounge. Additionally, the Hologram USA website is currently (7/2019) down.
This became part of the Pussycat chain only in December 1974. “Once Upon a time in Hollywood” is set on and around August 9th, 1969.

I have seen the conversion as well.
I used to go to the New View theatre during the early 70’s. They still showed mainstream movies.
The signage is currently returned to the Pussycat Theatre for the current Tarantino film. Although it is set in 1969, which precedes it’s Pussycat days. I posted two photos of the conversion, as well as ones from

Does anybody have ANY info on this theatre right now? So far as I see everytime I’m working with the Egyptian, is that it’s shut down. Surely something is happening. (And I’m not calling you Shirley!)
I lived in Hollywood, and then nearby, from 1972 to 1982, and I’m pretty sure it played there (along with “The Devil in Miss Jones”) pretty much throughout those years.
Having lived in the area 1981-1989 I don’t recall “Deep Throat” running 10 years.

I just walked by a few days ago (when covering the TCM Film Festival) and the doors are SHUT; the lights are OUT. It appears whatever production was being performed has ceased.
I’ve heard nothing about the status of the hologram project at the Ritz, nor can I find anything new about it on the Internet. I suspect that the technology is not advancing as rapidly as its promoters hoped. It might be along time before the Ritz opens with its new format, if it ever does.
