The Clinton Theatre was opened in 1923. By 1929 it had been renamed Clinton-Strand Theatre. By the early-1940’s it was operated by Basil Bros. Theatres After closing in 1964 it became the Strand Ballroom. By 1988 it had become a banquet hall named Autumnwood Manor, and today is a senior citizen center.

That view is from behind the theater. If you follow the streets around to the front, you will see that is almost unrecognizable from Lost Memory’s photo of 3/9/08.
Information on the original Strand Theater is under Mark Strand.
Not knowing how to contact “arl” in a different way, we are unable to find a listing for The Mark Strand Theater in Buffalo. Would “arl” be kind enough to post the exact URL for this?
We’re thinking “arl” is referring to the Mark Strand in NYC, not the one in Buffalo.
The Strand Theater on Main St was referred to as the Strand and Mark Strand, it was operated
by Mitchell and Moe Mark, who also ran the Mark Strand in New York City. Mitchell Mark died in
1918, and Moe ran the both theatres, and one in Rochester after that.

In 1926 this theatre was called the Clinton and by 1929 it was listed as the Clinton-Strand.
This item from the November 25, 1922, issue of The American Contractor must be about the Strand Theatre:
“Karkew” is an obvious typo for Krakow, the cross street near the theater. The Vassiliadis brothers were noted as owner-operators of the Clinton-Strand Theatre in the February 20, 1926, issue of Motion Picture News.The architectural firm of Lewis & Hill designed several theaters in Buffalo and the surrounding region, but this is the only one I’ve yet been able to identify. Robert A. Hill was active as an architect at least as late as 1938. I haven’t been able to find Lewis’s first name.
I remember “The Strand” as we called it in the 1960’s as a place us teenagers could go and dance every Friday night. They had bands and the place was always packed! There were no seats, just the stage and we had the whole place just for dancing. Great memories and lots of fun to keep us teenagers busy.
Closed or stopped its newspaper listings in 1964.
