Below history courtesy of the Valley Relics Museum 501c3 Facebook page.

The Reseda Theater was designed by S. Charles Lee and opened in 1948. It had been operated by both Pacific Theatres and Metropolitan Theatres. In its final years as a Spanish language house it was advertised as the Cine Reseda. It closed in 1988 and has been sitting vacant. In June 2016 plans were announced for a new Reseda Laemmle Multiplex Theater with 6 screens and 34 senior citizen units on top of and behind the theater building. The RESEDA marquee will be part of the design.

According to the latest Google Street View, the Reseda is still standing. New plywood covers the front, and the building is freshly painted.

Redevelopment officials also agreed to provide CIM with a $4.35-million loan to refurbish the Reseda Theater into a dinner theater. Although work was supposed to begin last year, the construction has been pushed back to spring 2010, officials said. Once the project is completed, the city would turn ownership of the theater over to CIM Group, city officials said.

I was taking some photos today when I met someone from CRA who happened to be there. He and I went inside-too dark for photos. He may be able to e mail me some interior shots.

The private money source is having some diificulty due to the economy. Inside is just a large empty space, although they did fix the holes in the roof.

Just what we need … another Landmark theater turned into a Hispanic Disco complete with Mariachi bands, gang-bangers and street punks.

Reseda USED to be a nice middle-class working neighborhood .. oh well, so did North Hollywood and look what happened there, other than the El Portal was saved ….

Does anybody know whats going on with the reseda Theatre are there any new developing plans for it or is it still in limbo?

I just drove by there tonight as I live right down the street and it is still boarded up which is a shame. However there does look to be some fencing around it as a sign that maybe theyre going to be doing something with it.

The problem is that area cannot really sustain a night club I dont think. If they do make it a night club they will need tight security because of all the gangs in the area. Whatever it is, it will be hispanically dominated.

The days of the Reseda Theater in the 50s and 60s are long gone. Nowadays it will be an Hispanic Music club most likely. Can a one screen theater really survive in today’s world?

I will be in Van Nuys next week. I’ve been meaning to stop by the Reseda and check out the progress, if any. Here is a B&W photo:

The Reseda “Walk-in” is located at 18443 Sherman Way, just EAST of Reseda Bl. in the San Fernando Valley …

The present owner is still in turmoil with the Reseda Chamber of Commerce as to what to do with the theater – He is asking the C of C to “Buy him out” at over a Million dollars …

I don’t think the Reseda C pf C even HAS a Million, period … It’s a shame, I used to go there all the time in the 50’s – ‘60’s It will probably turn into another swap meet or grocery store.

So much for Reseda ………
