The 2,500-seat Victory Theatre was opened on July 16, 1921, presenting Constance Talmadge in “Wedding Bells” on the screen and High Class Vaudeville on the stage. It was taken over by Loew’s Inc. in 1926, becoming Loew’s Victory Theatre. It operated as a movie theatre until closing in 1971.
It had a short life as a teenage disco/nightclub in the late-1970’s, and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. The Victory Theatre was closed in 1992, and was reopened in 1999 following an extensive renovation into a performing arts center.

Thanks for the info Chuck1231, the next time I go to Evansville I will check it out. I have been there several times but did not know about this theatre. Good to see that it is still in operation.

I saw “The Unsinkable Molly Brown” at this theatre while on a multi state trip. When I finally got back to New York, “Molly Brown” was first opening at the Music Hall. I couldn’t believe they built such a spectacular theatre, in what I looked at as a “little town”. In any event, I’m glad that it’s still there and hasn’t been demolished….like virtually all the great theatres in New York have been.
