The Hettinger Drive-In was opened on June 1, 1955 with Yvonne De Carlo in “Tonight’s the Night” when it was operated by Paul Rothstein. This drive-in was closed on October 1, 1983 screening “Private School” & “Hot Dreams”. It had been demolished by 1990.

The Hettinger Drive-In was open in 1961 with a 300 car capacity.

Perhaps its name changed? Boxoffice, March 8, 1976: “Randall Thornsley of Chugatch Entertainment Co., headquartered in Sturgis, S.D., has taken over operation of the Sundowner Drive-In, Bowman, N.D.; the Wagon Wheel Drive-In, Hettinger, N.D., and the Whitetail Drive-In, Lemmon, S.D.”
Boxoffice, Aug. 6, 1955: “Hettinger, S. D. (sic) - The new 300-car Hettinger Drive-In has been opened here by Manager Peter Rothstein.”
Still open in 1984, but was already gone by the early-1990s.
Opened June 1, 1955 with “Tonight’s the Night” starring Yvonne DeCarlo supported by Ralph Staub’s “Screen Snapshots: Hollywood Fathers” and the UPA cartoon, “Baby Boogie.” Its last advertised show was October 1, 1983: “Private School” and “Hot Dreams.”
